What is Pilates?

Joseph Pilates mantra was "In ten sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have a new body" Vogue 10/98

Quite simply – Pilates is exercise. Developed by Joseph Pilates (1881 – 1967) it is a method of conditioning that trains both body and mind. The equipment and movements work the deeper structural muscles (often referred to as the CORE). Pilates works the core and superficial muscles to increase muscular strength, achieve graceful movement, increase body awareness, improve postural alignment and breath control. The exercises deliver simultaneous stretching and strengthening. Pilates is a non-impact, balanced system that works as well for the elite athlete as it does for the injured, or the uninitiated. It can produce results regardless of age or fitness level. Pilates is the hottest fitness trend since aerobics -- it’s our specialty and our passion at Personal Best Pilates Studio.

Stop by and try one of our incredible pilates mat classes , or give us a call to schedule a introduction and assessment. This is a private session designed introduce you to the equipment and the fundamentals of Pilates-based movement. During this session the instructor will conduct a thorough assessment of your fitness level, including postural alignment, flexibility, coordination, strength and endurance, as well as any injuries or other special considerations. We’ll work with you to set goals based on your body and lifestyle.
